Grade the whole book
Comic grading considers the cover, spine, corners, staples, centerfold, interior pages, and completeness. One clean-looking cover cannot establish the grade of an entire comic.
Common grade terms
Collector shorthand includes NM for Near Mint, VF for Very Fine, FN or F for Fine, VG for Very Good, G for Good, FR for Fair, and PR for Poor. Combined terms such as VF/NM and FN/VF describe positions between major grade bands. Numeric grades from 0.5 through 10.0 provide finer distinctions.
Defects and disclosure
Record creases, tears, spine stress, detached staples, writing, stains, missing pieces, page quality, and restoration. Completeness and restoration can matter as much as surface wear. When the evidence is limited, use a conservative condition description instead of false precision.
